Linguistique avec spécialisation dans la description des langues de l'Afrique centrale et occidentale, principalement Adamaoua-oubanguiennes mais aussi du Soudan central (nilo-sahariennes), tchadiques centrales et (actuellement) kru (Niger-Congo). Une attention particulière est consacrée aux systèmes tonals de ces langues.
